Stain Guard Protection for Carpets & Sofas

After we deep clean your carpet or sofa, we can finish the job with a stain guard protector. It does not make fabric stain-proof, but it buys you time. Instead of soaking straight into the fibres, a spill sits on top for a few minutes, so you can blot it away before it leaves a mark.

Watch our stain guard test

We protected the left half of this carpet and left the right half untreated. Then we poured cola on both sides and blotted each one with kitchen roll. This is what happened.

Left: protected with stain guard. Right: no protection. Same carpet, same cola, same kitchen roll.
  • Unprotected side: the cola soaked straight into the fibres. Even after blotting right away, a brown stain stayed behind.
  • Protected side: the cola sat on top of the carpet. A little kitchen roll lifted it out, and the carpet was left clean.

How stain guard protection works

A stain guard is an invisible protective layer that coats each fibre. It slows down liquids and dirt so they cannot sink into the carpet or fabric as quickly. Spills stay on the surface for longer, and everyday dirt is less likely to bond to the fibres, so more of it comes away when you vacuum.

Why it is worth adding

  • Time to react – a few minutes to blot a spill before it soaks in
  • Easier everyday care – dirt and crumbs come away more easily
  • Cleaner for longer – carpets and sofas keep their fresh look for longer after a clean
  • Longer life – less ground-in dirt means less wear on the fibres

Where stain guard makes the biggest difference

  • Light-coloured carpets, sofas and armchairs
  • Homes with children or pets
  • Living rooms, dining rooms, hallways and stairs
  • Rental properties and holiday lets
  • Offices, hotels, pubs and restaurants

How we apply it

  1. We deep clean first. Protection works best on clean fibres, so it always goes on after cleaning, not instead of it.
  2. We check the fabric. Different fibres need different products, so we choose a protector that suits your carpet or upholstery.
  3. We apply it evenly. The protector is sprayed across the whole area and worked into the pile or fabric.
  4. Same visit. It is added at the end of your clean, so there is no extra appointment.

What stain guard cannot do

We would rather be honest with you. Stain guard is not a waterproof coating, and it does not make anything completely stain-proof. You still need to blot spills as soon as you can. The protection also wears down gradually with foot traffic and use, so we recommend adding it again after your next deep clean.

If you spill something

  • Blot with white kitchen roll or a clean white cloth. Do not rub.
  • Work from the outside of the spill towards the middle, so it does not spread.
  • If a mark is left, use a little cold water and blot again. Never use hot water on a fresh stain.
  • Still showing? Send Marek a photo and we will tell you honestly what we can do.

Frequently asked questions

Can you add stain guard to carpets and sofas?

Yes. We apply it to carpets and to fabric upholstery such as sofas, armchairs and dining chairs, straight after we have cleaned them.

Can I have stain guard without a clean?

We always apply it after a deep clean. Putting a protector on top of dirty fibres would seal the dirt in, so cleaning comes first.

How much does it cost?

The price depends on the size of the area. Just mention it when you ask for a quote and we will include it. Our minimum charge for a visit is £80, there is no deposit, and you pay after the job by cash or bank transfer.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in south Leeds and cover Leeds, York, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Harrogate, Bradford and the rest of Yorkshire.
