Linen, viscose, cotton, wool, silk and their blends look beautiful, but they are easy to damage with the wrong cleaning method. Too much water, the wrong product or too much heat can leave water marks, browning, shrinkage or faded colours. At Trust Cleaner we specialise in cleaning these delicate fabrics safely, in your home, across Leeds and Yorkshire.
Linen – can brown, ring or shrink if it gets too wet
Viscose – one of the most delicate upholstery fabrics; it water-marks easily and loses strength when wet
Cotton – prone to browning and colour bleed if over-wetted
Wool – a natural fibre that needs gentle, wool-safe products
Silk – very delicate and sensitive to water, rubbing and the wrong chemistry
Blends – such as linen and cotton mixes, which behave like the most delicate fibre in the mix
How we clean fine fabrics
We read the label and check the fabric. We look at the care label and the fibre content before we start.
We test for colour fastness. A small test on a hidden area shows whether the dyes are stable.
We choose the right products. Gentle solutions suited to natural fibres, never harsh chemicals.
We control the moisture. We use as little water as possible and keep the moisture level in check throughout the clean.
We dry it quickly. Air movers speed up drying, which helps prevent water marks and browning.
Fine fabric jobs from our own customers
These photos are from our own jobs. Fabric types are only named where we know them for certain from the label.
Checking the label first. This Wesley-Barrell sofa was 49% linen, 38% cotton and 13% nylon.
The same linen-mix sofa, drying with an air mover straight after the clean.
Halfway through: the cleaned stripe next to the soiled fabric on a seat cushion.
A patterned armchair, cleaned section by section with a gentle upholstery tool.
Cream patterned furniture, with dust sheets down to protect the floor.
Cushion by cushion, with towels to keep moisture under control.
More recent examples include a viscose sofa in Knaresborough and a mattress with a fine fabric cover in central Harrogate. You can read about them on our upholstery cleaning in Harrogate page.
What we clean
Sofas, corner sofas and armchairs
Dining chairs and footstools
Headboards and upholstered beds
Scatter cushions and seat cushions
Mattresses with fine fabric covers
Keep it clean for longer
After cleaning, we can add a stain guard protector. It gives you a few minutes to blot a spill before it soaks in, which matters most on light, delicate fabrics.
Frequently asked questions
Can you clean a sofa that says “dry clean only”?
Often yes, with a low-moisture method. We always test first, and if we think a fabric is not safe to clean on site, we will tell you honestly before we start.
Will the colours run?
That is exactly why we test for colour fastness first, on a small hidden area. If the dyes are not stable, we adjust the method or advise you not to go ahead.
How long does it take to dry?
Because we use very little moisture and air movers, most fine fabric furniture is dry within a few hours. Drying time depends on the fabric, the room and the weather.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the size and the fabric. Send us a photo of the furniture and its care label and we will give you an honest price. Our minimum charge for a visit is £80, there is no deposit, and you pay after the job by cash or bank transfer.
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in south Leeds and cover Leeds, York, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Harrogate, Bradford and the rest of Yorkshire.
